Student Leadership Project Report, haha

Well, someone wants this report, so I guess I shall just share it here:

Essentially, our class presentation focused on two main areas of servant leadership: listening without judgement and bonding within a community. The main vector of these two sub-groups of servant leadership is PN, our class' Assistant Civics Representative. As the class representative, he is the model of excellent conduct and scholastic virtue. We thus decided to centre our video presentation on him converying the method and the impact of displaying servant leadership. We got the idea for our video presentation from a seemingly ordinary class activity we often engage in - planning up an upcoming celebratory event. We decided that such common, yet insightful occasions were ideal situations whihc truly displayed the core values of servant leadership converyed effectivlely by our class leader.

The first scene was an introduction to the value of listening without judgement. In the video, PN led the class in a lively discussion over the logistical details and food preparations for a much-anticipated birthday party planned for classmates born in the month of February. The second scene showed the actualy February birthday party, held in the school canteen, which displayed the second trait: bonding within a community. These two spontaneous events sublimely conveyed the two intended values of servant leadership that our class chose to focus on. This proves that even typical everyday events are actually occasions where the values of servant leadership are not only employed, convery and observed, but also leave a positive impact on others.

The area of student leadership development that we wish to present in PN's skills of working with others. Throughout the planning stage, he was willing to listen to the opinions of others, as well as to impart his own opinion, without trying to coerce or influence others to agree with him. While persuasion is an important leadership skill, here PN was willing to sacrifice his own preference for the greater whole and and work with others to come to a decision that satisfies the calss. He was also able to organize and distribute labour effectively, such that each individual unit could contribute toward a collective goal, cooperating as a class to arrange a birthday celebration. All these demonstrate PN's exemplary skills of working with others, as he is able to connect and communicate with people on a personal level, being sensitive to their needs and wants, while still coming to a firm decision in the end.

This presentation has inspired our class in innumberable ways. We put in a tremendous amount of hard work, and together with team effort and impressive leadership, we managed to put our project together within the stipulated time frame. The entire process proved to be a unique learning journey of its own, and working with the servant leader of our choice has further introduced us to the essence of strong leadership. We are now utterly convinced of the merits of effective leadership as epitomised by PN. We are now acutely aware that the pertinent skills of "listening without judgement" and "bonding within a community" are entirely sine qua non in effective leadership. Amidst this dreary economic recession during which the meaninglessness of life is growing tragically familiar, we see the growing importance of effective leadership, of leaders proving themselves in the face of adversity to life the people out of a depressing cycle. Finally the experience was truly enriching and inspiring one that we feel glad to be able to partake in. It is a shared sentiment that it is crucial and imperative that good leaders like PN be honored and for us to pave the way for them on their delicate path to unimaginable greatness.

Erm, ya. Oh well.

Complimentary Cable Car Ride awaits YOUth!

PAYM Policy Forum @ East Coast GRC & Joo Chiat SMC on Sunday, 22 MARCH 2009, from 1.00pm - 5.00pm at Mount Faber, Diamond Palace @ The Jewel Box

From the ‘Keep Singapore Clean’ campaigns in the 1960s to the recent ‘Romancing Singapore’ campaigns, campaigns have almost become synonymous with the Singaporean way of life; this begs the inevitable question “Is Singapore a country of campaigns?”

Join us for an engaging dialogue in assessing the success of these campaigns and explore ways in which campaigns can be better communicated to the youths!

Free tickets to the cable car will be provided. Anyone interested just tell me. :)
